| The Mindfulness Educator Training (MET) is a 12-week, 20-hour, 2-phase program that provides practical ways of integrating mindfulness into daily personal life and prepares educators to bring age-appropriate mindfulness practices to the children they serve.
Training is in two phases: Phase 1 is based on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), a gold standard of evidence-based mindfulness programs in the world. The participants are introduced to mindfulness through topic discussion including (but not limited to) self-compassion, stress, and communication. Participants are invited to experience a variety of brief mindfulness practices and are supported as they establish a consistent personal practice, which is the foundation of bringing mindfulness to others. The many benefits of mindfulness practice range from reducing stress, burnout, and anxiety, to increasing sleep quality, pain management, and the quality of relationships. For educators, the benefits of practicing mindfulness have been shown to improve awareness and attention (presence in the classroom), connection with students, time-management skills, and greater work satisfaction. Participants will receive a weekly support email with mindfulness practice audio recordings, resources, and home practice suggestions.
Phase 2 Educators are prepared to bring age-appropriate mindfulness practices to their students through games, activities, and skills based on social-emotional learning. Participants will explore Attitudinal Qualities of Mindfulness, Elements of Teaching and Trauma, and diversity-informed ways to bring mindfulness to young children. Participants will practice delivering mindfulness activities to their cohort and will receive supportive feedback from facilitators. Evidence-based benefits of children who are exposed to regular mindfulness activities include (but are not limited to) increased attention, focus, impulse control, behavior regulation, learning readiness and supports pro-social behavior. Participants will be provided with a Mindful Teacher Training Guidebook, support emails, and resources to support learning.
